There is so much information about eating disorders, the causes, symptoms and treatment I'll divide it into categories. There are three main eating disorders, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. I'll start out with a little bit about each eating disorder and from there we'll delve into the causes, symptoms and treatments. I'll also include a list of refrences. All of the information found on this website can be found in one of these refrences. There is also plenty more information available and I will include information on how to find it.
Anorexia Nervosa is defined as loss of 15% or more of your body weight. However, this is only the clinical definition. You can be anorexic and be short of this line. I was anorexic and only reached this line at one of the most severe points of my anorexia. Some of the most common symptoms of anorexia include restricting food and compulsive overexercising. Bulimia nervosa is characterized by consuming large amounts of food and then purging the food in some way. There are various methods of purging including exercise, the use of laxatives, taking enemas and vomiting. People with bulimia nervosa can maintain a normal body weight and often partake in these binging and purging behaviors in private. Binge Eating Disorder
People with binge eating disorder consume large amounts of food, as in bulimia, but do not take part in purging behaviors. This causes the individual to gain large amounts of weight, often escalating the disorder, and causing numerous other health problems.
